Kim’s Biography

I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Columbia College of Missouri in 2004. After moving to Idaho, I began working in the mental health field. I worked with those diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness as a Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Worker (now known as CBRS) for 5 years before returning to school to get my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boise State University. While I was completing my degree I also trained in EMDR therapy. I graduated in 2015 and began working as a counselor at a local methadone clinic, where I received additional training and began focusing on addictions. I began my private practice while still in this role in 2016 and I received my Clinical License in May of 2018.

With the understanding that seeking counseling can be intimidating, I believe that by focusing on building a relationship of honesty with my clients, in which they can learn to trust another person with their issues, I can empower them to overcome adversity and trauma. I utilize a combination of therapy approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral, Mindfulness, Adlerian, Dialectical, and EMDR.

In today’s society, we lead very busy lives and easily become disconnected from each other and even from ourselves, which often leads to discontent in life and potentially to addictions. We utilize our addictions, whether it is to drugs, alcohol, electronic devices, or food to numb ourselves from the constant barrage of information we receive on a daily basis, as well as to protect ourselves from feeling vulnerable in an unsafe world.

I believe that every human being is an individual, and no two people have the same problems. I believe in meeting you where you are, whether that includes severe and persistent mental illness (i.e., schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, severe anxiety, OCD, Borderline Personality), addiction, eating disorder, obesity, ADHD, grief/bereavement, physical health issues, couples’ counseling, HIV/AIDS, LGBT, Transgender, Refugees, Trauma, PTSD, felonies, or other issues. I am comfortable working with people with different backgrounds.
